OUR LOCATION

Just a few minutes from Bologna, to enjoy a legendary place

HOTEL RESTAURANT CA’ DI GALI
Hotel Ristorante Ca’ di Gali enjoy a panoramic position on the hills of Sasso Marconi, surrounded by clean air and the silent embrace of the Rupe, a natural symbol of the area, full of stories and legend.
The property is the result of the major renovation of an ancient building on La Rupe Street, acquired by Davide Galli. The Galli family used to live in these areas and apparently the location “Ca’ di Gali” had taken its name from the family (Ca’ di Gali = House of the Galli). In the renovation and remodeling of the building, many characteristics were included as reminiscent of the Galli’s home, starting with the logo of a stylized rooster which became the brand of the Hotel Restaurant.
Between the fond memories of past times, therefore, a modern four-star hotel has been created with an elegant and spacious restaurant where guests can enjoy typical Tuscan-Emilian cuisine.
At the Hotel Ristorante Ca’ di Gali, the facilities provided by the most advanced technologies are accompanied by a professional and courteous staff, with no regrets for the warmth of human touch.
A truly unique place for special accommodation!

SASSO MARCONI: A NATURAL BEAUTY
Sasso Marconi is a charming town in the province of Bologna, approximately 20 kilometers away and accessible by car or public transportation.
We are located at the beginning of the Bolognese Apennine Mountains, among green hills and that charming riverbank creating trails like Ciclovia del Sole and Via degli Dei, very popular with trekking lovers and sportsmen in general.
Sasso Marconi’s name is connected both to the Rupe (the “Sasso”), the massive sandstone stratification linked to the Pliocene Contrafforte Pliocenico overlooking the Reno and Setta Valleys, and to the world-famous scientist Guglielmo Marconi, inventor of radio and wireless communication, whose home-museum is one of the most famous local area attractions.

LA RUPE ALSO CALLED SASSO DELLA GLOSSINA
The Rupe, called in the past the “Sasso della Glossina” (Saxum Glosine meaning ” tongue-like stone”) overlooks the whole landscape of Sasso Marconi with its severe but soothing presence. Shaped over the centuries by a succession of sandstone stratification, it is clearly visible when driving along the Porrettana road and the highway of Autostrada del Sole.
This bastion of the territory has always been accompanied by an aura of mystery, and through history, it has been given different symbolical meanings. If nowadays the Rupe is regarded with affection and pride by all Sasso Marconi’s residents, in the Middle Ages it used to be associated with the Devil, a reputation that lasted until the end of the 19th century.
It appears that the cliff was the home of a fortune teller and then a psychic who predicted a collapse occurred in 1892, devastating the houses and causing deaths of people living below.
For a very long time, the cliff was also the source of sustenance and development for the locals who used to work in the nine caves in its interior, for the extraction of sandstone. Under the protruding rock, stonecutters and extremely low-paid workers originally built their cave houses, most likely causing the mentioned collapse.
Inside one of the cave, Fra Giovanni da Panico built the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso, decorated by the devotees, priests and the artist Giovanni Andrea Donducci.

GUGLIELMO MARCONI
The second part of the name was inspired by Guglielmo Marconi indeed, who lived most of his youth in Pontecchio, a town in the Bolognese countryside where Villa Griffone is the family home where he carried out his first radio and wireless communication experiments.
Nowadays Villa Griffone, housing the remains of the inventor, is also home to the Foundation named after him, as well as the Marconi Museum, with exhibits of reproductions of the first wireless telegraphy equipment, together with original items and historical documents located in Guglielmo Marconi’s loft laboratory.
